Embattled Former Governor, Ayodele Fayose Gets N50m Bail

The embattled former governor of Ekiti state, Ayodele Fayose has been granted bail with the sum of N50m bond and a surety to present three years tax clearance.

It was gathered that his international passport was also deposited with the court.

Recall that Fayose had submitted himself to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission’s investigation over allegations of financial misappropriation during his administration.

Fayose was earlier denied bail by the Federal High Court, Lagos, following the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission arraignment on 11-count charge of conspiracy and money laundering, which accused him of benefitting from N4.65billion slush funds allocated by the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA) during the Goodluck Jonathan Administration.

The anti-graft agency alleged that Fayose allocated ₦6.5 billion from the funds, illegal acquisition of property in Abuja and Lagos and illegally acquiring property in the name of his sister in Abuja, among others.

But Fayose pleaded not guilty when the charges were read to him.

Meanwhile Fayose’s counsel Kanu Agabi filed for bail application but, the presiding judge, Mojisola Olatoregun said the application would be considered later since he is entitled to bail, she consequently ordered that Fayose should remain in EFCC custody till Wednesday.

Recall that the former governor after he left office on October 16, submitted himself to the EFCC in the company of Nyesom Wike, the Rivers State Governor, and Femi Fani-Kayode, a former aviation minister, and has been in their custody since then.

However, he was flown to Lagos on Sunday evening and brought to the court Monday morning amid heavy security presence.
