The unnecessary delays by INEC to expunge the name of Labour party’s sacked chairman, Abdulkadir Abdulsalam, from its records including the commission’s official website has attracted a “federal warning” from Voice out Vanguard; stating that INEC’s conspiracy with sacked chairman is geared at destabilizing the party ahead of the forthcoming general elections.
This was made known to newsmen by the Public relation officer of Voice-out Vanguard, Jimmy Kadiri Imoh, who flagged Dr. Mike Omotosho as the authentic national chairman of labour party.
However, the Omotosho led administration has dragged the Independent national electoral commission before a Federal High court in Abuja. The submissions of the complainant (LP) is to reconcile the challenges and delays behind INEC’s position and undemocratic disposition to the results of the recently concluded national convention held in Abuja. Though, the court has fixed 20th April, 2018 for the hearing of the case.
The issues brought before the court is to ensure that INEC discharges its duty by effecting the result of the national convention held last year; this sustains the call for the replacement of sacked A.A salam with Dr. omotosho, the authentic national chairman of Labour Party. “INEC has failed to do the right thing, and they must face the consequences”, the PRO stressed.
He also highlighted several situations and particularly the petition and alleged embezzlement of over 1.3billion naira belonging to the party, as well as his refusal to appear before a disciplinary committee which was set up to consider the allegations against him before the 3rd October 2017 special convention. The arrogant conduct of A.A Salam did expedite the process which led to his sack and further replacement by Dr Omotosho, during the recently concluded special national convention of labour party.
Constitutionally, the party reserves the right to suspend and sack any elected office holder, whose conduct is unacceptable and unconstitutional in the party.
“Its over 180 days since the necessary report was communicated to INEC, but till today the commission has refused to do the needful”, says the PRO of VOV.
Despite several reactions by groups, youth organisations, associations, legal bodies and constitutional provisions, INEC has ignored their plights, instead, the commission prefers A.A Salam to dictate the tune, because indeed he pays the piper.
Notably, the Special National Convention which was held on the 3rd of October, 2017, was monitored by three members of the Independent National Electoral Commission. The police was present, the Media and other stakeholders were observers, and all the laid down rules of the party’s constitution was followed carefully. At the later, the former Chairman, Alhaji A.A. Salam was removed from office. Dr. Mike Omotosho emerged the new national chairman of the party. So where has the party got it wrong; INEC must be careful, he noted.
Considering, the overall situation, it is obvious that prospective aspirants would be scared to run under the party’s platform, as a result of the intraparty controversies which has choked the stability of Labour party.
However, the PRO concluded by warning INEC to stop collaborating with Alhaji Abdulsalam in destroying Labour Party and destabilizing the image of the party, INEC is playing politics with the great party and their game plan is to destroy the party, but they shall fail”.
