A mum has been arrested over a viral video of a baby apparently smoking marijuana. Brianna Ashanti Lofton, 20, was tracked down by police in Raleigh, North Carolina, after the horrifying footage was viewed more than a million times on Facebook.
“Big thanks to everyone who posted information about the smoking mother and baby,” the Raleigh Police Department wrote on Facebook on Wednesday.
“Thanks to your willingness to get involved, the child is now safe and the mother is in police custody.”
Lofton faces charges of child abuse inflicting serious bodily injury and possession of marijuana.
She is in jail while the child has been taken into protective care, police said.
Two videos surfaced on Facebook which showed an adult hand holding a cigarette to an infant’s mouth.
The baby is seen to exhale smoke.
Police said the incident took place on December 1, 2017.
